Some FMP Progress

I wanted to share one of the most recent bits of work of my final major project. 
You may or my not know, but I am designing a security box for use at the beach, which would be secured to parasols that are already in the location.
This meant I had to design a way that the security box could fit round various sizes of parasol pole, whilst also providing a smooth sliding action up and down the pole.


After a few days designing and a few conversation with others I decided on a way to solve both solutions with a single part. 
I designed a retractable bearing system which will take pole sizes from 22mm up to 33mm.


Now that may be fairly boring to read about, but I will now get to the interesting part! Yey! :)
Due to the parts being so small I had to make a decision on how to make the bearings using the facilities available to me.


As the parts were so small I was given the go ahead to use the 3D printer that the university has! Joy! I think I am the first person to use it in at least four years (all the time I've been at uni)!

It springs to life! The glow makes it feel even more 'Sci-fi' than it already is!

Straight off the printer! The plastic covered is support material, which has a smell reminiscent of marzipan.

Cleaning the support material off with specialist tools.

With all the support material removed and a light sanding :)

The spring allows the bearing housing to retract and expand, accommodating different sizes of poles.

The two retractable bearings finished! Ready to be sprayed and combined with the final model (when its made)!

p.s. I like exclamation marks, incase you couldn't tell.

Digital Portfolio

After completing my Professional Design Frameworks module, I have created my digital portfolio (as well as a hard copy), so I can finally start applying for jobs! 

Ive posted the boards that I created below.

I have tried to order the sheets in the order that the skills would be used within the design process, for example, research is followed by initial concepts etc.

Instead of having many different sheets I wanted to combine the different skill sets into groups, this gives me a more organised and concise portfolio. This will enable me to talk about certain sections as a whole, while also highlighting certain points within these sections.

I am happy with the design and layout of the boards and look forward to receiving some feedback about them.

Personal Branding

So while creating business cards and portfolios and other such things I came across this video, it shows the worlds best business card! 
Quite an impressive claim, but I think I will be keeping mine to a more simple style :P

Advanced Research Strategies

The following presentation boards are the ones that I have made for the Advance Research Strategies module. It is basically the research section for my final major project! Scary stuff! 


The boards that I made for this act as a summary of the information that I gathered, it was an odd task as I'm usually used to presenting finished concepts, but still I am happy with what I have done :)

Dissertation!

A word that strikes fear into many students (including me)!

I am maybe a little bit behind with the planning of it, however I am now gaining some momentum with it.

I have narrowed down my choice of questions from looking through some research and the title will be something like:

'Can high density urban living ever be sustainable?'

I am sure this gets you on the edge of your seat! I thought I would play to my strengths and use what information I already have in this area, as well as an interest in it.

I have found some amazing bits of research on the internet which I will link to in this post :)

(Im not going to post them all :P)

I am now off to finish off my plan so I can start writing tomorrow!

RSA Project

This is some of the work from the initial stages of the RSA project which I have just completed at uni.
I am quite happy with the work and the design! 
The concept is an initial response and is currently under going further development for the final deadline.
